After a few years of hiatus, busy with work and frankly being very lazy, I'm finally back with some updates. Here are the illustrations from Parsifal's sheet music designed and illustrated by Willy Pogany in 1920. For those who are familiar with Pogany's work, it's quite different from the Wagner's triology Pogany designed and illustrated from 1911-1913 in book form, considered by many his masterpiece and one of the highlight of the Golden Age of illustration. This is a small booklet containing 12 fully illustrated pages, probably privately commissioned. The illustrations are up to the standard he did for Parsifal, but the ornaments and designs are in color instead of the B/W or gray tone in previous books, it is quite superb and vibrant. The scans doesn't do justice to the illustrations, especially in this case. Enjoy like usual. |

Illustrations from the First edition of Childhood by Millicent Sowerby, published by Chatto & Windus 1907. This is Milicent Sowerby's 3rd illustrated book.
Millicent Sowerby was born in Northumberland, England, the daughter of designer and illustrator John G. Sowerby. Her style was clearly influenced by the famed Victorian illustrator Kate Greenaway, usually depicting innocent children at play using flat colors and strong outlines.

Arthur Rackham is perhaps the most well-known Golden Age book illustrator, famous for his fairy tales and children's book illustrations. But in this latest addition to our gallery, it is anything but a children's book. In this late period of his career, he has taken the path that very few illustrators have travelled before, the illustration of the dark and gloomy Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Alan Poe. As you can see, his illustrations are less detailed and delicate than many of his early illustrations, but nonetheless exquisite in its execution and presentation of the tales.

Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (7 June, 1848 – 8 May, 1903) was a leading Post-Impressionist painter. His bold experimentation with colouring led directly to the Synthetist style of modern art while his expression of the inherent meaning of the subjects in his paintings, under the influence of the cloisonnist style, paved the way to Primitivism and the return to the pastoral. He was also an influential exponent of wood engraving and woodcuts as art forms.

William Brown Macdougall (1868-1936), British illustrator. His first books, the Book of Ruth and the Book to Job, first published in 1896 is clearly his best works. His decorated borders showed a clear influence by Aubrey Beardsley (La Morte d'Arthur) and William Morris and his Kelmscott Press.

Today is a historic day as Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. I like many others cannot afford to be there for this historic moment, so I'd like to take this little space to welcome the new President and a share a new era of hope and opportunity for this country.
Much has changed in the past 8 years, somewhere in between, we saw our economy tumbled, our country in disarray, millions without a job and many have lost their homes and the hope of living the American dream. A general distrust in our system and a lost of faith in our leaders. I hope that you all keep that dream in burning inside you. Nothing is worse than fear and you have seen what fear has done to this country in the past 8 years.
